This is not your normal mini golf experience; this is Wizard Golf, a noble game where each hole tells a story. As you embark on your magical quest to find our gargoyle, Grobblenook, can you conquer all nine holes and locate the letters to uncover the secret word? An enchanting adventure awaits, so make sure to book your spot.
Almost seven centuries ago, a powerful potion-making enchantress, Agnes De Molay aided York’s magical community, brewing extraordinary potions and casting spells from her tavern and wizard golf establishment, The Hole in Wand!
Quickly becoming the most popular wizarding spot in York, Agnes needed an assistant to help concoct her potions. One day, after a walk along York’s misty Shambles, looking up at the York Minster she spotted one particular grotesque stone gargoyle and knew what she must do, casting a transformation spell and bringing Grobblenook to life.
Grobblenook’s reputation as an alchemist grew and his skills were in great demand, from light and dark Wizards alike. Vowing only to serve good, he may face danger from those more villainous as they seek to acquire his potion brewing abilities. It is feared he has been taken for some dastardly scheme, though hoped he is laying low to avoid the shady side of the York’s wizarding society. Can you help find him? Armed with a golf wand, Dragon’s Egg and our guidebook, locate the secret word and more importantly, find Grobblenook!
The Search for Grobblenook begins! Drop your Dragon’s Egg into either of the two tankards and bear in mind, one will serve you better than the other. From wherever it lands, aim for the hole under the table.
Is there a gargoyle hiding in our stores? Tee off towards the loop-de-loop. Aim right and your Dragon’s Egg will shoot right around and straight into the hole!
Your quest takes you to The Potions Cauldron. Is Grobblenook seeking sanctuary here or is something more sinister afoot? Pop your Egg into the cauldron stack pipe, see where it lands then aim towards the cauldron – but watch out for the bubbles!
Has our gargoyle returned from whence he came? Step into the York Minster painting, aiming your Dragon’s Egg up and over the roof, then into the hole. It’s the perfect spot for a group photo too.
Once used for potion smuggling, there are plenty of hiding places in York’s mysterious, dusky passageways, so keep a look out for Grobblenook. Send the egg rolling down the corridor, aim for the mousehole and watch out for the eyes in the dark!
Grobblenook might be under the protection of the Unicorns of Dalby Forest. Keep on with your search through these mystical woodlands and send your Dragon’s Egg around the spiral towards the hole....Beware the garantulas!
Your quest brings you to the Potting Shed. Is our gargoyle held captive here? Drop your Egg into the fountain and see where it goes. Hit it up the ramp, into the bottom drawer of the cabinet and plant it in the hole!
A place of historical significance, at the confluence of York's two rivers is the nesting place of Apalla, the water dragon. Test your skills and play the hole but be careful not to awaken the dragon!
Follow the water pipes from Apalla’s nest for your last chance to find Grobblenook and complete your expedition. Drop your Dragon’s Egg down the pipe, then strike it firm and true up the ramp. Will your quest be victorious?
